Richard in Antarctica with penguins
In Antarctica. Penguins are wonderful.

Welcome to Richard Neill's Online Castle!

Welcome to the website of Richard Neill. That would be me on the right, in Antarctica, although I can confirm that the "Red Squirrel" has now been safely returned to the wild. By way of brief introduction, I am now working on a Ph.D. in Astrophysics at Trinity College, Cambridge. This website contains all sorts of ideas and resources for your enjoyment and information. As for myself, if you really want to know, you can find out a little more about me here.

Anyway, now you are here, please let me offer you a glass of (virtual) whisky - Single Malt, naturally, and then make yourself comfortable. If you read everything here, it may take you some time! There are basically four different things which you may find here:

  • Resources. This is technical information, principally computer code, such as my Mandrake-Thinkpad and VoIP howtos. There are also some computer programs here: GNUs will be especially interested in this section!
  • Opinions. These are my thoughts and views about questions which I have considered in some detail. Having thought about them, I think some of them are worth sharing. Of course, if you wish to disagree, I would be delighted to hear your views. My viewpoint is Liberal, Humanist, and Scientific. Much of this content is political.
  • Me. Well, this is my website, so I suppose I have to have some stuff which is about me on it! This also includes my current Ph.D., my MPhil thesis, and information of interest to family and friends, such as photographs.
  • Miscellaneous. All sorts of random odds and ends which may be of use to someone! The Internet is full of treasures, and where I have stumbled across one, I try to share it. For example, there is the links page, containing directions to many other online establishments which I commend.

So, without further ado, I shall leave you to enjoy my hospitality - please stay for as long as you wish. And if you'd like some more Whisky, you need only ask.

When you decide it is time to depart, the door is this way and the attic is up here.

A Historical Note: Back in 2000, I introduced this website thus:

"It's about time I had a proper place on the net, so here goes!"

Anyway, since then, this small corner of the Internet has remained my virtual home, and so I welcome you to I hope you find it interesting. To misquote a famous saying:

"Home is where you hang your '@'."
